Boscarne
Junction
This station
is at the north western end of the line and adjacent to
the Camel Trail which runs along the old trackbed to Wadebridge and to
Wenfordbridge. The station has a Waiting Room available to
passengers during the day. There is a vineyard approximately 25 minutes walk
away and guided tours are available. Please phone them on 01208 77959 for
more details. Please
see the
timetable
for more details. There is also a family pub
nearby.
Boscarne was
the junction of the original Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway (later London &
South Western Railway and then Southern Railway) and the Great Western
Railway.
Bodmin
Parkway
Originally
called Bodmin Road, this is a main line station on the route from London &
the north to Penzance. Bodmin & Wenford Railway trains operate from
Platform 3 adjacent to the platform used by London bound trains.
Through tickets may be bought at all mainline stations which include
travel on the Bodmin & Wenford Railway - just ask for tickets "....to the
Bodmin & Wenford Railway" - not to Bodmin Parkway.
Car parking at this station is for main line passengers only.
The old
Signal Box on the down platform has been converted to a cafe
and the Bodmin & Wenford operate this primarily as a service to main line
customers but also to walkers and our own passengers. The cafe
offers tea, coffee, sandwiches, sweets etc with a warm welcome.
There is a
very pleasant walk from here along the old carriage drive to Lanhydrock
House (about 1¾
miles - 40 minutes). Lanhydrock is a beautiful country house set in
impressive grounds and now owned by the National Trust. There is an
admission fee for the house and gardens but not for the grounds. For more
information please contact the
National Trust.
The Bodmin & Wenford Railway have a
carriage storage shed here and there is also an exchange siding which provides access onto the Up Main
Line. This is controlled by Lostwithiel Signal Box. Visiting locomotives
often arrive this way. Freight traffic has also used this connection on a
regular basis.

Colesloggett Halt is another new station. Built in 1993 to serve
a Farm Park adjacent to the station. The Park has now closed but the Halt
makes an ideal place to alight from the train for walks in the nearby
Cardinham Woods. The Public Footpath runs through fields and has stiles
at certain points. This route is not recommended for wheel chairs, push
chairs or the infirm. The path can be wet and muddy at times.
Trains from
Bodmin General to Bodmin Parkway usually stop at Colesloggett Halt but not
on the return (up hill) journey.
Certain trains do not
stop at Colesloggett Halt. There is no car parking here for railway
users.
Gradient Profiles
The line is steeply graded
most of its length. Continual brake application is required as the
train descends from Bodmin General to Boscarne Junction or Bodmin Parkway
and the locomotives work hard on the uphill return journey.
